Course description
The online avalanche self-rescue course is part of Avalanche Canada's STA 1 training and is ideal for starting to move through the winter mountains outside the controlled areas of ski resorts.
Here you will learn what requirements rescue gear must meet (DVA, shovel and probe) to choose the right equipment, and the full protocol you must follow if you have an accident and need to rescue a partner. Above all, you will learn every step in detail so you can carry out a rescue as quickly and efficiently as possible, avoiding the most common mistakes.
This course can be extended with our online course "Avalanche risk management" and in-person avalanche rescue workshops.
This online course is necessary, but not sufficient, to move safely in winter terrain. Practicing these protocols is essential to correctly resolve a real situation. This course gives you a methodology and a reference guide to practice avalanche rescues.
