Itinerary - Trekking in Val di Fassa, Dolomites

Things to Know from Trekking in Val di Fassa, Dolomites

For 9 days you walk through the heart of the Dolomites di Fassa, linking six massifs surrounding Val di Fassa: Monzoni, Marmolada, Sella, Sassolungo (Langkofel), Antermoia and Rosengarten. It is a self-guided trip (although we also offer the guided version of it), designed for hikers with good physical condition, no specific technical skills required, who want to walk at their own pace with a prepared route plan.

The trip starts and ends in Val di Fassa, with accommodation in a base hotel on the first and last night. Upon arrival you collect the materials prepared for your week of trekking (map 1:25,000 and schedule/route plan), and the next day you transfer to the start point to begin from Passo San Pellegrino.

The first days take you through the Monzoni, an area with little traffic where there is good potential to see alpine ibex, then towards the landscapes surrounding the Marmolada, bypassing the non-walkable on foot eastern ridges and crossing alpine meadows and fresh forests along streams coming down from the glacier.

Midway through the trip comes the visual highlight: the Sella Group, with its rough “moonscape” plateau near 3,000 m. In good weather conditions, the stage allows you to reach the Piz Boe (3,152 m), combining wide panoramas with passages through narrow gorges and spectacular descents.

After the challenge of the Sella, the route offers a rest bypassing the Sassolungo, with variant options (complete circumnavigation or crossing a high pass). Then you enter the “lost world” of Antermoia, a high mountain with sparse vegetation and a remote atmosphere, crowned by Lago Antermoia and its rock walls dominating the landscape.

The end of the route changes scenery towards the Rosengarten, a massif shaped like a fossil reef, where the main icon is the Torri di Vajolet. You walk beneath its towers and finish with a panoramic trail before returning to the base hotel in Val di Fassa.

The special aspect of this trip is the variety of landscapes (meadows, gorges, rocky plateaus, ridges and high lakes), the experience of sleeping in mountain refuges in very powerful locations and a self-guided format with maps, planning and 24h support, to enjoy autonomy without going “blind”.
