ITINERARY HIKING UPPER MUSTANG
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to Hotel Thamel to rest and acclimatize.
This hotel is located in the heart of the tourist district of Thamel, known for its shops and restaurants.
This day is dedicated to obtaining the necessary permits to enter the restricted Upper Mustang region.
Take the opportunity to explore Kathmandu’s historic sites, such as Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. Accommodation at Hotel Thamel.
A jeep ride of approximately 6-7 hours will take you to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city.
Enjoy an evening by Phewa Lake and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight at Hotel Splendid View.
An early morning jeep ride takes you through the Kali Gandaki Valley to Jomsom and onwards to Kagbeni.
Kagbeni, a picturesque village, marks the entry point to Upper Mustang and offers stunning Himalayan views. Overnight in Kagbeni. Lodge.
About 6 hours walk, covering approximately 14 km.
The trek follows the Kali Gandaki River, passing through desert-like landscapes and unique rock formations.
Chhuksang is a small settlement with traditional Tibetan-style houses and stunning red cliffs.
About 4 hours 30 minutes walk, covering around 13 km.
The trail crosses several suspension bridges and takes you through the narrow gorge of the Kali Gandaki.
Samar, a beautiful village with whitewashed houses, offers the first real glimpse of Mustang’s unique culture.
About 3 hours 30 minutes walk, covering approximately 12 km.
The trail climbs steadily through barren landscapes, with panoramic views of Nilgiri and Annapurna.
Geling is known for its ancient Buddhist monasteries and barley fields.
About 5 hours walk, covering around 15 km.
This stretch includes crossing the Nyi La pass (4,010 m), offering breathtaking mountain views.
Tragmar is famous for its striking red cliffs and ancient Mani walls.
About 8-9 hours walk, covering around 20 km.
Visit Ghar Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in Nepal, before reaching Lo Manthang.
Lo Manthang, the walled capital of Upper Mustang, is rich in history, culture, and stunning architecture.
Spend the day exploring Lo Manthang’s monasteries, caves, and the King’s Palace.
The town’s narrow alleys and Tibetan-influenced culture make it a fascinating place to wander. Accommodation in a lodge.

Descend towards Tsarang, passing through barren hills and isolated monasteries.
Tsarang is known for its large white and red monastery and an old fortress.

Retrace your steps through Mustang’s unique landscapes, passing prayer flags and Mani walls.
The route offers spectacular views of the Himalayas and insight into Mustang’s remote lifestyle.

A short trek takes you back to Kagbeni, where you take a jeep to Jomsom.

A full-day drive brings you back to Kathmandu, concluding your Mustang adventure.

FULL DETAILED TOUR OF UPPER MUSTANG: A TREKKING EXPERIENCE THROUGH NEPAL’S HIDDEN HIMALAYAN KINGDOM
This trek of Mustang, Nepal, takes you on an extraordinary journey through the ancient Himalayan kingdom. Starting in Kathmandu, you’ll travel by jeep to Pokhara and Jomsom before beginning the trek through breathtaking landscapes, deep gorges, and high-altitude desert terrain. The route includes historic villages, Buddhist monasteries, and the walled city of Lo Manthang, offering a deep dive into Tibetan-influenced culture. With carefully planned acclimatization, elevation details, and scenic trails, this trek ensures an immersive experience in the mystical Upper Mustang region. Ending with a return to Kathmandu, the journey combines adventure, culture, and spectacular mountain views.
You need a minimum level that allows you to do a mountain route of 800 m of elevation gain in one day. It is a demanding route but there are days interspersed with short walks to guarantee good acclimatization and good recovery from the days of trekking. During the route we can carry a small backpack with the things we will use during the day. The porters will transport our backpacks to the next lodge.

Food:
The Itinerary explains what meals are included each day according to the program. If you have allergies or preferences, let us know on the registration form and we will take it into account.
We always recommend that you bring your own energy bars, nuts… so that you can eat while doing the activities.
Accommodation:
The first and last night we will stay at the International Guest House hotel in Kathmandu. The other nights we will sleep in the different lodges that we will find along the way.
The program provides accommodation in shared rooms. If you want a single room, please indicate this at the time of booking.
We believe solo travelers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travelers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and solo travelers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.
In case you wish that we can look for the best flight combination tickets from your nearest airport to the destination you can add this service in “extra services” on the checkout before booking the trip and will give you the best proposal beforehand and once accepted buy it for you. This service includes monitor the flight prices over time to get the best deal when prices are low and check in of your flight. Rescue insurance: Recommended
Rescue insurance is highly recommended on all active trips. It must be taken into consideration that these insurance policies are specific for each type of activity (hiking, climbing…)

Visas, and Entry Requirements
Certainly! It is important to have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity when traveling to any country.
Nepal has VISA on Arrival for most of the countries, you can speed up the process and avoid queues when landing, if you submit your application online through this official web link.
Upon arrival, proceed to the bank counter at Tribhuwan International Airport with the submission ID (confirmation page) that you received when filling out the application form for a Nepal visa.
Pay the applicable fee in cash and after making the payment, proceed to the Immigration Officer Desk with your original passport for visa processing.
In the case of a visa, keep yourself up to date, as immigration policies often change. That is why it’s advisable to verify the information closer to your intended travel date.
Currently, as of February 2024, the Nepal tourist visa costs are as follows:
- 15 Days: USD 30
- 30 Days: USD 50
- 90 Days: USD 125
To know the specific visa requirements for your trip, it is recommended to contact your local embassy or consulate, or consult with your travel agent. Remember that it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct travel documentation. Visa requirements can vary based on your nationality and your destination. While we strive to keep our information updated, visa rules can change unexpectedly. Therefore, it is crucial that you verify the information yourself and understand that you are accountable for meeting your own visa requirements.
Vaccines
For each trip, clients are solely responsible for having the mandatory and/or recommended vaccines required in each region or country. Consult with your doctor to have all vaccinations before the start of the trip.
Initial Reservation: To secure your place, an initial payment 30% of the total amount of the trip is required at the time of making the reservation.
Final Payment: The remaining amount, equivalent to 70% of the total, must be paid no later than 60 days before the departure date.
Extras: Additional travel costs, such as insurance, flights and other optional services, must be paid in full at the time of booking.
Cancellation insurance: The client can take out trip cancellation insurance to be able to obtain payment of the entire amount paid (according to its conditions).
The end user may withdraw from the contracted trip, having the right to a refund of the amounts paid, except for the indicated penalties, but must also satisfy the Agency in the amounts indicated below once the trip has been confirmed. If it is not carried out due to not reaching the minimum necessary places, the client can save the credit for future trips or request a full refund of the reservation.
Cancellation Policy 3:
- FULL REFUND UP TO 24H AFTER PURCHASE
- Up to 60 days before the trip 100% refund of the trip amount.
- Up to 45 days before the trip Refund of 50% of the trip amount.
- For terms shorter than those described in the cancellation policy, the amount already paid will not be paid.

* Cancellation fees will not be paid for reservations already issued. If there are other non-refundable expenses already issued, these will not be paid either and will be deducted from the amount to be paid.
* The cost of cancellation of issued flights is 100% of the amount.
