ITINERARY CLIMB ELBRUS
We will meet you at Mineralnye Vody airport (no later than 12:00) or at Tbilisi airport (in this case, you must arrive the day before). Transfer to the Baksan Valley, distribution of equipment and meeting with the guide. Group briefing on the route and question and answer session. Accommodation in a hostel or hotel according to the chosen rate. Dinner at the hotel (Basic Package) or at a local restaurant (Comfort Package).
We climb Mount Cheget with light backpacks. Before the hike, everyone will receive a packed lunch and we will have lunch on the mountain with views of Mount Elbrus. From the top, enjoy stunning panoramic views of Mount Elbrus and the Baksan Gorge. For the descent we will use the cable car to save our legs and conserve energy. Dinner at the hotel or local restaurant.
Another day of acclimatization. We will walk to the Devichi Kosi waterfall, where we will have lunch and take a refreshing dip. Then, we will ascend towards the Observatory. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon.
Transfer to the cable car and ascent up the south face of Mount Elbrus to 3,800m. Accommodation in a mountain refuge in regular or VIP rooms, according to rate. The guide will provide training in two basic mountaineering skills: rope techniques and walking with crampons on snow and ice slopes.
We start early in the morning. We will walk with light backpacks, carrying only snacks, a thermos with hot tea and water. You will ascend approximately 1200 m and reach an altitude of 5,000 m. On this day you will experience the effects of altitude, and it may be challenging, but it will provide you with good acclimatization and will make subsequent climbing easier.
A day of rest before the climb. We will practice self-arrest techniques on the icy slope using the ice axe. We will also review other previously learned skills. We will take a short walk to keep our muscles and respiratory system active. We will prepare our backpacks for the ascent. We will go to bed early as it will allow us to rest enough before the climb. In case of bad weather forecast for the next few days we can give up the day of rest and continue with the ascent.
We started the climb at midnight and headed towards the top of Mount Elbrus. From the high camp we climbed roped, with crampons, carrying ice axes, a helmet and a headlamp. We bring snacks, a thermos with hot tea and water. We move very slowly to regulate our breathing and conserve energy. The ascent usually takes between 8 and 10 hours, with an additional 3 to 4 hours for the descent. (If you want to use supplemental oxygen during the climb, you can rent it.) We will spend the next night in the mountain refuge.
We descend by cable car to the valley. Transfer to the hotel. Lunch at the hotel. The rest of the day’s program will be coordinated and decided on site with the group. Possible options include a walk through the forest to the mineral spring or other activities. In the evening, festive dinner and presentation of medals and certificates. If necessary, this day will serve as a reserve day for the climb to the summit.
After breakfast, we will take a group transfer to Pyatigorsk. On the way, we will stop at Narzan Meadows to enjoy the natural mineral water. At the agreed time, you will have an individual transfer to the airport. Please make sure that your return flight on this day does not depart before 14:00 from Mineralnye Vody.
12 days program “Elbrus from East”
- Day 1: Arrival and Preparation: Welcome to Mineralnye Vody Airport (MRV). We can also meet you in Tbilisi (TBS) or Kutaisi (KUT), provided you arrive early in the morning or the day before. Transfer to our office for equipment and clothing checks and rental gear distribution. You’ll be accommodated in a 3-star hotel, sharing a room with another participant. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
- Day 2: Trek Begins: After breakfast, gather at the office to meet your guide. The guide’s name and qualifications are available on our website’s arrivals page. During the group briefing, the instructor will discuss the route and answer any questions. We then transfer to the village of Elbrus, a 3-hour journey, followed by a short trek up the Irik Chat gorge. We’ll camp near a Narzan spring in a pine forest by a river and waterfall, perfect for a refreshing swim.
- Day 3: Trek to Irik Chat Gorge: Start the day with a training session on walking and breathing techniques to help you hike more efficiently. As we leave the forest behind, alpine meadows open up, and we begin a steep climb into a broad valley. We’ll camp by the river with stunning views of rocky peaks and the pass we’ll ascend the next day. Elevation gain: 430 m. Overnight altitude: 2750 m.
- Day 4: Summit Paton’s Peak: We set off with minimal gear—tea, snacks, and warm clothes—for a full-day trek to the summit of Peak Paton (3930 m). This is our first acclimatization hike and a scenic route, including crossing a mountain river on metal cables we installed specifically for our groups. The climb involves rocks and scree, ascending to a ridge with panoramic views of Elbrus, its Achkeriakolsky lava flow, and the surrounding mountains and gorges.
- Day 5: Cross Irik-Chat Pass: We continue ascending the canyon, passing by the glacier’s tongue, and climb to the Irik-Chat Pass at 3667 m. Our campsite offers two picturesque views: the valley we ascended from to the south and the Jikauchenkez ice plateau, Kalitsky’s Peak, and Elbrus to the north. In the afternoon, we’ll practice walking in rope teams. Elevation gain: 917 m.
- Day 6: Glacier Crossing: Today, we cross a wide snow-ice plateau, roped together due to hidden crevasses under the snow. We approach the lower rocks of the Achkeriakolsky lava flow, climbing to an altitude of 4000 m where we set up camp. The day includes training in two essential mountaineering skills: walking in crampons on snow and ice, and self-arrest with an ice axe on icy slopes. Elevation gain: 400 m.
- Day 7: Acclimatization at 5000 m: Our main acclimatization day begins early. We travel light, taking only snacks, tea, and water, and ascend to 5000 m, approaching the edge of Elbrus’s side crater. The trail leads through rocks and snow. At this altitude, you’ll likely feel the effects of lower oxygen, but this acclimatization will make the final ascent easier. Elevation gain: 1000 m.
- Day 8: Rest Day: A well-deserved rest day before the summit attempt. We’ll conduct a practical training session, review previously learned skills, and take a light walk to keep muscles and respiratory systems active. Prepare your backpack for the climb and get an early night’s rest. If the weather forecast for the upcoming days is unfavorable, we may forgo this rest day and proceed with the summit attempt.
- Day 9: Summit Day: We begin at midnight, with one hour for final preparations. The ascent to the summit of Elbrus is conducted in roped teams, using crampons, ice axes, helmets, and headlamps. We’ll bring snacks, hot tea, and water, and progress slowly to maintain energy and steady breathing. The ascent takes 8-12 hours, followed by a 3-4 hour descent back to camp. Oxygen can be rented if desired.
- Day 10: Descent to the Valley: Today, we’ll descend the distance it took us three days to climb. The descent is easier, and our backpacks are lighter. We’ll return to the Irik-Chat Valley, camping near a waterfall, transitioning from “winter” back to “summer” in just one day.
- Day 11: Return to Pyatigorsk: A 2-hour descent brings us to the village of Elbrus. From there, we transfer to Pyatigorsk, stopping for lunch at a café along the way. We’ll stay in a hotel, rest, and enjoy dinner. In the evening, certificates and medals for climbing Elbrus will be presented.
- Day 12: Reserve Day: This day is reserved in case of bad weather on the planned summit day. If the reserve day is not needed, the tour concludes a day earlier. In this case, additional accommodation and meal costs will apply until your departure.
- Day 13: Departure: After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will take you to the airport at any time during the day for your departure.
12 days program “Elbrus from North”
- Day 1: Arrival and Preparation: We meet you at Mineralnye Vody Airport (MRV), or if arriving in Georgia, at Tbilisi or Kutaisi Airport. If you arrive in Georgia, please arrive one day earlier. After the transfer to our office, we’ll distribute equipment. You’ll then be accommodated in a 3-star hotel, sharing a room with another participant. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
- Day 2: Transfer to Elbrus Base Camp: After breakfast, we gather at the office to meet your guide, whose name and qualifications you can find on the departure list on our website. During the group briefing, the instructor will discuss the route and answer any questions. We then transfer to the base of Elbrus on its northern side, a journey of approximately 3 hours. A short hike will bring us to Emmanuel Glade, the Base Camp for climbers ascending Elbrus from the north, where we will set up tents.
- Day 3: Exploration of Dzhily Su Area: Today is an easy day to allow for acclimatization. We’ll explore the Dzhily Su area’s most interesting landmarks without carrying heavy backpacks. Highlights include the Sultan waterfall, the Valley of Stone Castles, a bath in the narzan springs, crossing a natural stone bridge in the canyon, and seeing the stone of Emmanuel, inscribed by the pioneers of Elbrus in 1829.
- Day 4: Trek to Lake Birdzhaly: This day is dedicated to acclimatization with a trek to Lake Birdzhaly, known for its splendid view of the eastern slope of Elbrus and the Achkeryakolsky lava flow. We’ll practice mountain walking and breathing techniques. In case of adverse weather or other circumstances, we may opt for a trek to the Mikelchiran Glacier instead. The elevation gain for the day is 900 meters.
- Day 5: Trek to Stone Mushrooms: The next two days involve trekking to the Upper Camp with full backpacks. Before departure, the instructor will brief the group on walking and breathing techniques to improve endurance. Our trek will take us from Emmanuel Glade along the river to the “German aerodrome” and then steeply upward to the fascinating Stone Mushrooms, where we will set up camp.
- Day 6: Arrival at Upper Camp: Today, we’ll trek to the first glaciers on the northern slope of Elbrus, reaching the Upper Camp at 3800 meters. Tents will be pitched on rocks. In the afternoon, the instructor will conduct practical training on three essential mountaineering skills: walking roped up, using crampons on snow and ice, and self-arresting with an ice axe on icy slopes.
- Day 7: Acclimatization Ascent to Lenz Rocks: We begin an early morning acclimatization ascent to Lenz Rocks, reaching an altitude of 5000 meters. Carrying only light packs with snacks, hot tea, and water, we’ll tackle the altitude challenge, which will help your body adapt, making the final ascent easier.
- Day 8: Rest Day: A day of rest before the summit attempt. We’ll review and practice previously learned skills, take a short walk to keep our muscles and respiratory system active, and prepare our backpacks for the ascent. An early bedtime (around 5:00 PM) will ensure sufficient rest before the climb. If the weather forecast is unfavorable, we might skip the rest day and attempt the summit instead.
- Day 9: Summit Day: The summit ascent begins at midnight, with an hour allocated for preparations. We’ll move roped up, wearing crampons, helmets, and headlamps, and carrying ice axes. Slow and steady, we’ll maintain our breathing and conserve energy. The ascent to the summit of Elbrus takes 8-12 hours, with a 3-4 hour descent back to camp. Oxygen can be rented if needed.
- Day 10: Descent to Emmanuel’s Glade: Today, we descend to Emmanuel’s Glade, a half-day trek. After lunch, we’ll transfer to Pyatigorsk for hotel check-in. Relax and enjoy dinner, and celebrate the expedition’s success with certificates and medals for climbing Elbrus.
- Day 11: Reserve Day: This day is reserved for a second summit attempt in case of bad weather earlier in the expedition. If the reserve day is unused, the tour ends on this day, a day before your scheduled departure. Additional costs for accommodation and meals until your departure may apply.
- Day 12: Departure: After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will take you to the airport at any time during the day for your departure home.

MAP CLIMB ELBRUS
TOUR DETAILS CLIMB ELBRUS
Mount Elbrus with its 5,642 meters of altitude is the highest mountain in continental Europe. For many years it has been greatly forgotten but it is one of the 7 summits in the world, it is located between Mount Vinson (Antarctica) and Kilimanjaro (Africa).
It is located in the Caucasus mountain range in the Kabardino Balkaria region. An area where there are more than 160 peaks that exceed 4,000 meters.
It is not a mountain with great technical complications for its ascent but its height and special weather that can change very quickly should not be underestimated. During the ascent day to the summit there will be a maximum ratio with the mountain guide of 1:4.
The 9-day program is from Mineralnye Vody airport to the return (transfers included in price). With prior acclimatization by climbing Mount Cheget, visiting the Devichi Kosi waterfalls and acclimatization in stages on Elbrus.
The south face of Elbrus, the most popular for climbing it, has mechanical lifts that allow you to climb up to 3,800 meters. We offer a basic package in basic hostels and refuges or a comfort package (+650eur.) in 3* hotels and superior mountain refuges.
All the mountaineering equipment we need is available for rent there, as well as if we want to use supplemental oxygen.
