ITINERARY MANASLU TREK
Arrival in Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon: we can visit the Swayambhu stupa (monkey temple), get lost in the streets of Thamel or have our first Dal bhat dinner (the most traditional dish of Nepali cuisine).
Free day in Kathmandu. To carry out the processing of permits and to be able to carry out the
last purchases for trekking.
We will drive from Kathmandu to Arughat and change the vehicle as the locals want to use their vehicles to reach Soti Khola which is at an altitude of 710m it will take around 8-9 hours in total. It will be a long but scenic and rewarding jeep ride, half of the way is dirt and also a bit bumpy. We will stop for the night here in Arughat.
We took a local Sotikhola bus today, via Arkhet we reached Soti Khola and started walking. Today we will start the trek by crossing a beautiful river and going up through dense salt forests. We will climb an exciting ridge above the Budhi Gandaki river. Once we reach Khursane the test becomes rocky and steeper. We can see two beautiful waterfalls on our way. After walking through the terraced farmlands, we will arrive at the Gurung village of Labu Besi.
It is a beautiful Gurung settlement. After walking up the rocky path, climbing a ridge, walking along the rivers bank and crossing a high suspension bridge, we finally reach the small settlement of Machha Khola. We will spend the night in a local inn.
We will walk through a narrow path, sometimes uphill and sometimes downhill to reach Tharo Khola. After crossing it, we will arrive at Khorla Besi. After walking a little longer, we will arrive at Tato Pani, a natural hot spring. We can bathe here. After climbing a ridge and crossing the beautiful Budi Gandaki on a suspension bridge to reach a junction.
From there we will go up a stone staircase and a ridge to reach the village of Dobhan. We will once again cross another suspension bridge over the Yaru Khola and then climb a stone staircase called Tharo Bharyang, which means steep staircase. After crossing to the west bank of the Budhi Gandaki, we will climb a ridge, walk along the banks for a while and reach the village of Jagat, where we will spend the night.
The walk is relatively simple and relaxing today. We will walk uphill to Philim, a beautiful village inhibited by the Gurung people.
We can see many old monasteries, Chortens and prayer flags decorating this small town. We walked on a flat, level path mainly through pine, rhododendron and other forests. As we walk, we will cross some bridges and you can see villages in the distance. Some houses are seen in Deng, you can enjoy a nice waterfall at some distance. Deng is famous for its potatoes, buckwheat, barley, wheat, cabbage, and spinach, as people mainly engage in agriculture in this area.
Today’s trek will start with a relaxing walk on flat ground for some time and then the route will start to climb until reaching Namrung.
We will cross forests today on our way to Namrung. Once we reach there, we will be gratified with the spectacular view of Manaslu, rocky hills, green valley and ridges below us. It is a small Buddhist town where we can then go for the exploration of Monasteries and Chortens, Hydro Electricity Power House, among others.
We will trek uphill through the inland Himalayas. Along the way, we will be constantly rewarded with beautiful views of mountains like Manaslu, Dwijen, Gorkha and Saula Himal. We can also see the Rupi Nala Pass. The vegetation now begins to change. We will walk along this winding route for some time before arriving at Lho Gaon and Lihi Gaon, two small Buddhist villages influenced by Tibetan culture. We can visit the local monasteries and schools run by Buddhist monks.
Now we go down and cross the Damonan Khola bridge, and go back up. Through humid forests or over muddy or icy terrain we finally reach the Shyaula Plateau (3,520 m), with a wide view of Himalchuli (7,893 m), Ngadi Chuli (7,879 m) and Manaslu. We crossed a ridge through a desolate area, littered with blackened tree stumps, and passed through the canyon of the Thosang Khola. Then we go down until we reach Samagaon, who has a large gompa
Today we have reserved a day for acclimatization and exploration of Sama Gaon.
We can trek to Manaslu Base Camp from where we can get an amazing view of Manaslu, Nagdi Chuli, Manaslu Icefall and Glacier among others.
We will walk slowly to Samdo from Sama Gaon today through dry and rocky terrain. The Tibetan border is only 4 km from Samdo. However, it is restricted to cross the border.
We can visit the Tibetan refugee village here in Samdo.
From Samdo we go down a wide and quiet road, through several fields, to a large mani wall and a stone arch, where we cross a wooden bridge at 3850m. An ancient and large mani wall marks the beginning of the ascent to Larkya La. We ascend in a relaxed way through tundra and gins, right in front of the gigantic Larkya glacier that descends from northern Manaslu. The path gets steeper and climbs along a ridge to about 4,000 m, where there is a viewpoint next to a large canyon. We went in and out of the canyon and made our way to the only shelter on the route before the pass, the Larkya Rest House in Larkya Phedi.
We will start the trek early in the morning today on a trial uphill until we reach Larkya La by walking on the rocky path. Reaching the top, we can have a magnificent view of Larkya peak, Manaslu, Ratna Chuli among others.
After crossing the road, we have to go down for a while. On our way we can see many ice lakes. We will rest for the day after reaching Bimanthang, a wide valley with many deserted houses.
We leave the town through a stone arch, cross the Dudh Khola, and advance along the river. As the path progresses, the wall of the Marsyangdi valley becomes larger. We cross a wooden bridge back into the northern part of the Dudh Khola at 1930m, and ascend to an arch and manio wall in the town of Thonje. Here we turn left and cross a hanging bridge over the Marsyangdi River to reach Dharapani (1920 m).
Today, we take a local jeep or bus with other trekkers to Bei Sahar on a dirt road. We relaxed and enjoyed our last night in Besi Sahar with a nice dinner and goodbyes from the trekking staff.
