9-day all-inclusive program to climb Mount Elbrus (5642m.) from the south face. Climb the highest mountain in Europe with all the guarantees and best guides. Prior acclimatization by climbing Mount Cheget.
From 1.350€
Mount Elbrus with its 5,642 meters of altitude is the highest mountain in continental Europe. For many years it has been greatly forgotten but it is one of the 7 summits in the world, it is located between Mount Vinson (Antarctica) and Kilimanjaro (Africa).
It is located in the Caucasus mountain range in the Kabardino Balkaria region. An area where there are more than 160 peaks that exceed 4,000 meters.
It is not a mountain with great technical complications for its ascent but its height and special weather that can change very quickly should not be underestimated. During the ascent to the summit there will be a maximum ratio with the mountain guide of 1:4.
The 9-day program is from Mineralnye Vody airport to the return (transfers included in price). With prior acclimatization by climbing Mount Cheget, visiting the Devichi Kosi waterfalls and acclimatization in stages on Elbrus.
The south face of Elbrus, the most popular for climbing it, has mechanical lifts that allow you to climb up to 3,800 meters. We offer a basic package in basic hostels and refuges or a comfort package (+550eur.) in 3* hotels and superior mountain refuges.
All the mountaineering equipment we need is available for rent there, as well as if we want to use supplemental oxygen.
Many people wonder if it is possible to travel to Russia today. There is no legal impediment to visiting the country and traveling to the Elbrus region is safe. Currently you can obtain an entry visa to Russia electronically, making the procedures much easier. Remember to bring cash as most credit cards do not work there.
Day 1
We will meet you at Mineralnye Vody airport (no later than 12:00) or at Tbilisi airport (in this case, you must arrive the day before). Transfer to the Baksan Valley, distribution of equipment and meeting with the guide. Group briefing on the route and question and answer session. Accommodation in a hostel or hotel according to the chosen rate. Dinner at the hotel (Basic Package) or at a local restaurant (Comfort Package).
Day 2
We climbed Mount Cheget with light backpacks. Before the hike, everyone will receive a packed lunch and we will have lunch on the mountain with views of Mount Elbrus. From the top, enjoy stunning panoramic views of Mount Elbrus and the Baksan Gorge. For the descent we will use the cable car to save our legs and conserve energy. Dinner at the hotel or local restaurant.
Day 3
Another day of acclimatization. We will walk to the Devichi Kosi waterfall, where we will have lunch and take a refreshing dip. Then, we will ascend towards the Observatory. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon.
Day 4
Transfer to the cable car and ascent up the south face of Mount Elbrus to 3,800m. Accommodation in a mountain refuge in regular or VIP rooms, according to rate. The guide will provide training in two basic mountaineering skills: rope techniques and walking with crampons on snow and ice slopes.
Day 5
We start early in the morning. We will walk with light backpacks, carrying only snacks, a thermos with hot tea and water. You will ascend approximately 1200 m and reach an altitude of 5,000 m. On this day you will experience the effects of altitude, and it may be challenging, but it will provide you with good acclimatization and will make subsequent climbing easier.
Day 6
A day of rest before the climb. We will practice self-arrest techniques on the icy slope using the ice axe. We will also review other previously learned skills. We will take a short walk to keep our muscles and respiratory system active. We will prepare our backpacks for the ascent. We will go to bed early as it will allow us to rest enough before the climb. In case of bad weather forecast for the next few days we can give up the day of rest and continue with the ascent.
Day 7
We started the climb at midnight and headed towards the top of Mount Elbrus. From the high camp we climbed roped, with crampons, carrying ice axes, a helmet and a headlamp. We bring snacks, a thermos with hot tea and water. We move very slowly to regulate our breathing and conserve energy. The ascent usually takes between 8 and 10 hours, with an additional 3 to 4 hours for the descent. (If you want to use supplemental oxygen during the climb, you can rent it.) We will spend the next night in the mountain refuge.
Day 8
We descend by cable car to the valley. Transfer to the hotel. Lunch at the hotel. The rest of the day’s program will be coordinated and decided on site with the group. Possible options include a walk through the forest to the mineral spring or other activities. In the evening, festive dinner and presentation of medals and certificates. If necessary, this day will serve as a reserve day for the climb to the summit.
Day 9
After breakfast, we will take a group transfer to Pyatigorsk. On the way, we will stop at Narzan Meadows to enjoy the natural mineral water. At the agreed time, you will have an individual transfer to the airport. Please make sure that your return flight on this day does not depart before 14:00 from Mineralnye Vody.
